NØVA onSound as Space

A conversation about memory, rooms and residual frequencies.

Editorial portrait study for a conversation with NØVA

I’m interested in the space between sound, memory and physical space.

NØVA speaks slowly, as if the sentence might change the acoustics of the room. The conversation takes place in Berlin, in a studio that still holds the previous night’s air.

Sound, for NØVA, is not an object placed in space. It is the thing that makes space legible. A frequency can draw a wall. A silence can open a corridor that was not there a moment before.

We talk about residual frequencies: the ones that remain after the sequence has ended, after the body has left, after the recording has been named. Memory, in this work, is not nostalgia. It is a second architecture.

The conversation does not resolve. It leaves a room. That, NØVA suggests, is the point.
